Roshni Nadar, the daughter of HCL technologies founder Shiv Nadar, has become the richest woman in India, after her father gifted her a mammoth 47% stake of his stake in HCLTech promoter firms, making Roshni the majority stakeholder with a controlling 57.33% ownership in the company.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires – India list, Roshni Nadar Malhotra is now the third-richest person in India, a position previously occupied by her father, Shiv Nadar. Roshni Nadar is now wealthier than other famous names in the Indian business space, including Nita Ambani, Isha Ambani, Azim Premji, and Narayana Murthy.
India’s rich list is topped by Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani with a net worth of $88.1 billion, while Adani Group chief Gautam Adani sits at the second spot with $68.9 billion, and now, Roshni Nadar has catapulted to the third place on the list, boasting a net worth of $35.9 billion, as per Bloomberg.
Additionally, Roshni Nadar has also become the richest woman in Asia, and the 5th wealthiest woman on the planet, according to Bloomberg Billionaires list.
The development comes after HCL Tech, in a regulatory filing last week, announced that Shiv Nadar had transferred 47% of his shareholding each in two promoter entities, including Vama Sundari Investments and HCL Corporation, to his daughter Roshni Nadar Malhotra as a gift deed.
“A Gift deed dated March 6, 2025 executed by Mr. Shiv Nadar in favour of his daughter Ms. Roshni Nadar Malhotra for transfer of his 47% shareholding in Vama Sundari Investments (Delhi),” HCLTech said in the filing.
“Immediately prior to execution of the Gift Deeds, Mr. Shiv Nadar and Ms. Roshni Nadar Malhotra held 51.00% and 10.33% shareholding respectively in both Vama Delhi and HCL Corp,” the IT major added.
With the transfer of 47% shares, Roshni Nadar now holds a majority 57.33% stake in the promoter firms, while her father’s stake has reduced to 4%. The two promoter entities collectively hold a significant 44.34% stake in HCL Technologies, as of December 2024.
According to the filing, Vama Delhi and HCL Corporation collectively held a major 44.34% stake in HCLTech, the third largest IT services firm in India.
“Consequent to the aforesaid transfer, Ms. Roshni Nadar Malhotra shall acquire control of and become majority shareholder of Vama Delhi and HCL Corp,” the filing added.
