New Delhi: State Bank of India (SBI) has sent across a message to its customers asking them to get their new ATM/Debit cards activated by November 28, or the bank would be forced to block their cards. The change of card is necessitated for reasons concerning the security and better services.
“All esteemed customers of SBI of India are hereby informed that it has been decided by the Bank that all the Magstripe Debit Cards which are in blocked state as on 28-Feb-2017 and to all such requests for blocking thereafter will remain blocked permanently. Instead, free EMV Chip Cards have to be issued to them. The affected cardholders are to be advised to apply for replacement EMV Chip Card through internet banking or by approaching their home Branch,” a notification on SBI’s official website read.
The new cards are EVM chip-enabled, unlike the previous card, ensuring more security than the latter. All the SBI customers are advised to get their new cards activated before the deadline which is November 28.
Further, all those who haven’t received their new ATM/debit cards yet can apply for it online. The customers can also initiate the process by visiting SBI’s respective branch.
It must be noted that the bank has been issuing new cards since February 2017. It would stop issuing on December 31. Therefore, all customers must get new cards by the given date or their cards might be blocked.
