SBI Recruitment: The State Bank of India is planning for its biggest phase of expansion in recent years. It has been announced that the company will hire nearly 16,000 employees each year. In addition, it will open 200 to 300 new branches in fiscal year 2026. This plan states that the bank is confident enough that the demand for banking services will rise across India. The Chairman of the State Bank of India, C. S. Setty, stated that the bank looks forward to maintaining its hirings to keep up with the increasing demands.
What’s SBI’s plan?
The State Bank of India (SBI) is planning to hire 16,000 individuals and open 200 to 300 branches in FY26. This move comes as a part of its expansion strategy. The objective is to strengthen the operations, improve customer service, and support the growth of branches all across the country. The bank had hired more than 2.3 lakh people until March 2025, nearly 28 per cent of whom were women staff.
What did the SBI Chairman say?
The Chairman of SBI, C.S. Setty, said, “Today we have very clear visibility of micro markets, where we need to set up a branch and ATM. We will be adding 200-300 branches in current fiscal. Our recruitment process is almost getting completed. Around 16,000 new employees will join the bank in current fiscal. We add these number of people almost each year.”
He also stated that for SBI’s network expansion, the company always looks for white spaces, and that it will keep adding branches, without wanting to miss any opportunity. “We ave very strong analytical model. We see where the footfalls are growing beyond certain number and add ATMs accordingly,” he added.

Upgrading of ATM network
The subsidiary of SBI, State Bank Operations Support Services, will be deploying ATM Mitras for the maintenance and monitoring of over 60,000 ATMs. This will comprise time management, cleanliness, and additional repairs. Additionally, it will strengthen the government schemes and help in field sourcing for agriculture and small business loans, for which almost 6,000 staff members will be put in branches.
