Who has not heard about Shah Rukh Khan, the recognized King Khan of Bollywood? However, in a surprising twist, Alakh Pandey, the founder of PhysicsWallah, has surpassed the Bollywood superstar in terms of net worth. Pandey experienced an incredible growth of 223% in his wealth, bringing his net worth to Rs 14,510 crore, while Shah Rukh Khan’s net worth is around Rs 12,490 crore. Pandey’s rapid rise has created a buzz for the newly minted Gujarati edupreneur, landing him a spot on the Hurun India Rich List 2025 and taking a piece of Khan’s spotlight.
PhysicsWallah has scaled up quickly while also enhancing its financial position. In FY2025, the company reduced its net loss to Rs 243 crore, down from Rs 1,131 crore in the prior year. Simultaneously, revenue grew from Rs 1,940 crore to Rs 2,886 crore, indicating healthy organic business growth in addition to greater operational efficiency.
Shah Rukh Khan has entered the billionaire category for the first time with a 71% increase in his net worth from 2024. This surge mainly stems from Red Chillies Entertainment, in which his wife, Gauri Khan, has a stake. The company reported a net profit of Rs 85 crore in FY2023. Additionally, Shah Rukh’s film Jawan earned Rs 640.25 crore in India and Rs 1,160 crore internationally, validating his wealth.
PhysicsWallah has made an application to SEBI for its IPO. The company’s IPO could be priced at Rs 3,820 crore, which includes an offer for sale of Rs 720 crore. According to reports, Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari may offer to sell shares worth Rs 360 crore through the offer-for-sale (OFS).
Alakh Pandey is considered one of India’s wealthiest teachers in India. He started taking tuition classes from Class 8 as a result of his weak financial conditions. According to media reports, his parents sold their house in order to fund his education and his sister’s education. Alakh was a bright student; he scored 91 per cent in Class 10th and 93.5 per cent in Class 12th.
At the age of 22, he dropped out of an engineering degree and returned to Allahabad with a plan to teach physics, earning just Rs 5,000 per month at that time. Pandey aspired to become an IITian but was unable to crack the entrance exam. Originating from Prayagraj, Alakh Pandey began this venture in 2020, with Co-Founder Prateek Maheshwari, to democratize access to high-quality education for all learners in Bharat.
