For 2016-17 Union Budget the introduction of GST is most eagerly awaited by the Trade and Industry as it is essential for achieving a solution to the issues relating to the comprehensive indirect tax regime.

Union Budget 2015-16 announced investments in new port projects, national highways, airports, mass rapid transport, and policies to promote the Indian Logistics industry and improve infrastructure. For 2016-17 Union Budget the introduction of GST is most eagerly awaited by the Trade and Industry as it is essential for achieving a solution to the issues relating to the comprehensive indirect tax regime. Some of the other points where the Logistics Industry would love to see the transformations in, are:

· Granting ‘infrastructure’ status to the logistics industry to help organize the sector, boost private investment and accelerate the supply chain, is also one of our primary expectations (Also Read: Budget 2016: Finance Ministry seeks public vote on fund allocation for social schemes)

· Focus on improving, ‘ease of doing business’ in the transportation sector via easing licensing regulations.

· A policy-based push towards integrated transportation by channelizing the movement of commodities via suitable modes of transportation such as; railways and waterways.

· Provide a thrust to the transportation sector in tandem with the ‘Make in India’ programme that promotes innovation, investment and skill development in the country, across sectors.
