Hurun Global Rich List 2025: India is home to the third largest number of billionaires worldwide, ranking only behind China and the United States, according to the recently released Hurun Global Rich List 2025. As per the list, the number of billionaires in India saw a slight increase in 2024, with the total number rising to 284 who have a combined wealth of around Rs 98 lakh crore.

According to the list, the United Kingdom (UK) sits at the fourth spot, while US has regained its top spot for the first time since 2016, replacing China, which topped the list last year.

The Hurun Global Rich List 2025 has ranked 30 countries based on the number of billionaires, with the bar set at a minimum of 12 billionaires. Six Asian countries, including India and China, are ranked on the list.

What is Pakistan’s rank?

Unsurprisingly, Pakistan, which is facing currently facing a dire financial situation amid a crumbling economy, crippled by inflation and mounting debt, does not feature on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025. While the neighboring country may have a few billionaires, the number is certainly less than a dozen, as that is baseline for making it into the global rich list.

Notably, Pakistan-born American billionaire Shahid Khan is often touted as the ‘richest man in Pakistan’, however, ‘Shad’ Khan, as he is popularly known among business circles, is an American citizen. The Pakistani-American sports tycoon, who owns ‘Flex-N-Gate’, an auto parts company, which supplies parts to major automobile manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Nissan, and Toyota, has a net worth of $13.1 billion, according to Forbes, making him the wealthiest Pakistani-origin person on the planet.

India has 284 billionaires

As per the global rich list, India has a total of 284 billionaires, with 13 new entrants joining the billionaires joining the club in 2024. The list also pointed out that the number of billionaires who have moved out from India and settled in other countries, is also alarmingly high.

According to the Hurun list, as many as 42 billionaires have immigrated to other countries, including the United States, while only six such individuals have moved to India from other countries.

The list also revealed that a majority of Indian billionaires come from healthcare, consumer goods and industrial sectors.

US regains top spot after a decade

Meanwhile, the United States has regained its top spot on the global rich list after a gap of nearly 10 years. According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025, US had added 70 billionaires over the past year, taking the total number to 870, while China is ranked second with 823 billionaires, with only nine new additions.

As per the list, the number of new billionaires in China has been declining for the past two years, and almost come to a halt in the last year.
