On September 1, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had unveiled the prototype version of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach here at the BEML's facility. The coach will undergo rigorous trials and tests in 10 days before rolling it out on the track for further testing, Vaishnaw had said while talking to reporters.
Indian Railways has modified the contract for 200 Vande Bharat sleeper trains. The contract worth Rs 58,000 crore will witness a few changes. Earlier, the number of coaches was 16 which has been increased to 24 while the number of train count has been reduced from 200 to 133, Financial Express quoted sources as saying.
Russia’s CJSC transmashholding and Rail Vikas Nigam limited were given contracts to manufacture and maintain 120 Vande bharat trains but the number has been cut down to 80.
State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Titagarh Wagons had bagged contracts for 80 trains where the companies had to manufacture and maintain them but now the number has been brought down to 53 in the revised contract.
