Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India as well as across all of Asia, is one of the wealthiest individuals on the planet with a net worth of $111 billion, as of December 7, 2025. But have you ever what is the exact source of his immense wealth? According to the an earlier annual report by Reliance Industries, the Chairman of the oil-to-telecom conglomerate has not taken any salary since the Covid-19 pandemic, and neither does he sell his shareholding in the company.
As per various reports, Mukesh Ambani has multiple sources of income, such as investments across varied sectors, revenue from his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, as well as dividends from the company’s profit distributed among its shareholders. Several reports suggest that share dividends are the primary source of Mukesh Ambani’s wealth, and since he holds a significant number of shares compared to other shareholders or investors, the resulting dividend income is also substantially larger.
According to Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) data, the Ambani family, which is the promoter group of Reliance Industries, collectively owns a 50.39% controlling stake in the company. At present, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has approximately 644.51 crore (6.44 billion) shares, with the promoter group (Ambani family) owning half of them, whereas the remaining 49.61% are held by public shareholders, including FIIs and corporate bodies.
As per reports, the Ambani family earned a whopping Rs 3,322.7 crore in dividends from their majority stake in the company in FY23-24. Earlier, Reliance Industries had announced 1:1 dividend for its shareholders at Rs 1o per share for the financial year ending March 31, 2024, Hindustan Times reported.
The largest stakeholder in Reliance Industries is Kokilaben Ambani, the wife of late Dhirubhai Ambani, and mother to Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, who owns a whopping 1.57 crore shares, which equals to around 0.24% of the company’s total equity.
While Mukesh Ambani does not take a salary in his own company, he is still the richest man in Asia, boasting a net worth of $111 billion, as of December 7, 2025, making him the 16th wealthiest individual on the planet according to Forbes Real Time Billionaires List.
