Who holds the biggest position in Tata Group? Is it Noel Tata, or is it someone else?

New Delhi: The Tata Group is run by the Tata Trusts. Tata Sons is the holding company of the Tata Group, meaning it controls and manages all the group’s companies. Tata Trusts hold a 66% stake in Tata Sons, meaning they indirectly own the entire group. Tata Trusts make important decisions related to the Tata Group based on the trustees’ opinions. Therefore, the position of the trustees of the trusts becomes very important.

Noel N. Tata

Noel N. Tata is the Chairman of the Tata Trusts. He is the most important person in the Tata Group’s policymaking. As Chairman of the Tata Trusts, he presides over all the trusts that are part of the Tata Trusts. Noel N. Tata has been associated with the Tata Group for over 40 years.

Chandrasekaran

The second most important person in the Tata Group is N. Chandrasekaran. He is the Chairman of Tata Sons. Tata Sons is the parent company of all major Tata Group companies, such as TCS, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Titan, and Air India. As Chairman of Tata Sons, Chandrasekaran takes all day-to-day decisions of the group.

Venu Srinivasan

Venu Srinivasan is the Vice Chairman of Tata Trusts. He is Chairman Emeritus of Sundaram Clayton Limited and TVS Motor Company. He is also a member of the Tata Sons board and represents Tata Trusts on the Tata Sons board.

Mehali Misri

Mehali Misri is also a trustee of Tata Trusts. Misri, a Mumbai-based businessman, joined Tata Trusts in October 2022. He manages the M. Pallonji Group of companies. Misri has been a close confidant of Ratan Tata.

Jehangir H. C. Jehangir is a Pune-based businessman who runs a hospital. He joined Tata Trusts as a trustee in 2022. Darius Khambatta is also a trustee of Tata Trusts. He is a senior advocate and has represented the Tata Group in various court cases.

Jimmy N. Tata

Ratan Tata’s younger brother, Jimmy N. Tata, is also a trustee of Tata Trusts. However, he is not very interested in the affairs of the Tata Group. He generally prefers a quiet and private life.
