The founder of Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange, named Changpeng Zhao, was granted a pardon by the President of the United States, Donald Trump. This comes after several people argued that he wasn’t guilty of anything and that he had not committed any crime.

When President Trump was asked about the possible reason for forgiving the Binance CEO, he said, “I believe we’re talking about the same person, because I do pardon a lot of people. I don’t know. He was recommended by a lot of people.” He further added that Zhao was persecuted by the administration of Biden.

Who is Changpeng Zhao?

Zhao is a China-born individual who holds the citizenship of Canada. He was the founder of BijieTech, an exchange building company for trading platforms in the year 2015. The Binance founder has also worked at Blockchain.com as Head of Development, at Fusion Systems as a partner, and at Bloomberg.

Later, Changpeng Zhao resigned as the Chief Executive Officer of Binance in the year 2023 when it was accused of illegal conduct by agreeing to pay a fine of $4.3 billion. What’s the view of the Trump administration?

After a reporter asked about the allegations from Democrats that this decision promotes corruption, the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “I would respond and say the president is exercising his constitutional authority to grant clemency requests.” She also added, “It is thoroughly reviewed by the White House Counsel Office, and I spoke with our great White House Counsel about the pardon after it happened. This was an overly prosecuted case by the Biden administration.”

What’s Zhao’s response?

Changpeng Zhao acknowledged the response on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Deeply grateful for today’s pardon and to President Trump for upholding America’s commitment to fairness, innovation, and justice. Will do everything we can to help make America the Capital of Crypto and advance web3 worldwide.”
