There has been a major change at Raymond Ltd. Nawaz Modi Singhania, the wife of the company’s chairman and managing director, Gautam Singhania, has resigned from the board of directors. The couple, who were married for 32 years, decided to separate in November 2023. They have two children. Nawaz cited “personal reasons” for her resignation. Gautam Singhania thanked her for her contributions as a board member. Last year, Nawaz was removed from the board of three private companies owned by Raymond.

Her resignation from Raymond Ltd.’s board came effective from March 19, 2025. She has submitted her resignation letter to the company, which has also been shared with the stock exchange.

She expressed her gratitude to the board for their immense support and cooperation throughout her tenure. She also requested the company to acknowledge the letter and arrange for the necessary forms to be filed with the Registrar of Companies and the stock exchange office.

Commenting on the resignation, company CMD Gautam Singhania said, “We thank Ms Nawaz Modi Singhania for her services as a Board member over the years. As a company, we are committed to upholding the highest level of governance while continuing to navigate the evolving landscape of the industry.”

Nawaz’s removal from three private companies

In April 2023, Nawaz was removed from the board of three private companies under the Raymond Group: JK Investors (JKI), Raymond Consumer Care Ltd. (RCCL), and Smart Advisory and Finserve. This decision was made during an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on March 31, 2024. Although Nawaz opposed the board’s decision, she was eventually ousted.

Nawaz Modi, 54, is a professional fitness trainer who manages a gym in south Mumbai. Nadar Modi, a well-known lawyer, is her father. Despite studying law, she was more interested in fitness and lifestyle.

Gautam Singhania and Nawaz Modi Singhania tied the knot in 1999 after dating for eight years. The couple, who share a passion for fast cars, have two daughters, Niharika and Nisa.
