There are plenty of parties hosted all over the world that have been discussed over the years. But have you ever heard of the biggest party? Or have you ever heard of the world’s most expensive party? If not, today we are going to tell you about an extraordinary party that will leave you shocked. It is claimed to be the largest party ever held, where 18 tons of food were prepared, 25,000 bottles of alcohol were served, and 100 airplanes were used to help bring in guests.

What made this party the world’s most expensive ever?

In 1971, the Shah of Iran hosted the most expensive party in history and changed the history of Iran forever. Iran looked completely different 54 years ago; women wore Western clothes, and the surroundings were strikingly modern. The Iranian Revolution of 1979 completely changed the country. The revolution marked the end of the Pahlavi Dynasty and the beginning of the Islamic Republic, and it fundamentally changed Iran’s laws, culture, and, most importantly, the freedom of women.

Who hosted this extravagant celebration?

In 1941, Mohammad Reza Shah ascended to the throne in Iran. He was very wealthy and wanted to modernize the country. He became more Westernized himself and disliked the old ways, such as the hijab. In 1971, to celebrate 2,500 years of the Persian Empire, he held an extravagant party in the desert of Persepolis, next to the tomb of the ancient king Cyrus the Great, which was attended by guests from 65 nations. It was reported to cost approximately 100 million dollars at the time.

When was this historic party held?

It took a whole year to get ready for this enormous multi-day party. Since there weren’t enough hotels in the capital, a temporary city of tents was built out in the desert. Roads were constructed, and tents like royal palaces were bought in and put up. Interestingly, simply to sustain and feed so many people, all the food and supplies were flown in from France. To make the desert seem somewhat lush and green, 50,000 birds were brought into the desert; unfortunately, most didn’t survive the heat.
