Zoho has launched new Point-of-Sale (POS) devices, founder Sridhar Vembu announced on X. The devices will enable businesses to accept in-person payments and integrate with Zoho’s broader ecosystem.
Vembu said the company’s homegrown instant messaging app, Arattai, will soon integrate with Zoho Pay, further strengthening its payments ecosystem.
Last year, Zoho became an RBI-authorised payment aggregator and introduced its suite of online payment solutions. The new POS devices will allow merchants to process transactions via debit and credit cards, UPI, and mobile wallets.
Highlighting Zoho’s growing focus on global fintech and digital payments, Vembu added that the company has partnered with NPCI’s NBBL to address real-world business challenges and bolster India’s payments infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Arattai has witnessed an explosive 100x surge in traffic, with daily new sign-ups skyrocketing from 3,000 to 3.5 lakh. Zoho is ramping up its infrastructure on an emergency basis to handle another potential 100x spike in activity, Vembu said.
Even as our Arattai team is scaling up and fine tuning the product, our other product teams are hard at work.

Zoho-backed homegrown messaging platform Arattai has topped 7.5 million overall downloads as on Friday, marking one of the fastest adoption feat for a local app in recent times.
The viral streak comes amid clarion calls by ministers, founders and CEOs to embrace the Made-in-India messaging app, the rapid daily sign-ups that followed, and widespread sharing and invitations circulating on social media platforms, including ironically, various WhatsApp groups.
According to the company, Arattai has touched 7.5 million overall downloads (7.5 million accounts registered overall) as on October 3, 2025, including Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
“We have faced a 100x increase in Arattai traffic in 3 days (new sign-ups went vertical from 3K/day to 350K/day). We are adding infrastructure on an emergency basis for another potential 100x peak surge. That is how exponentials work. As we add a lot more infrastructure, we are also fine-tuning and updating the code to fix issues as they arise. We have all-hands-on-deck working flat out,” Vembu said in a post on X.
