Zomato layoffs: Online food delivery giant Zomato has reportedly fired more than 300 employees, purportedly without any prior notice or warning. The alleged firings came to light following a Reddit post by a former Zomato employee who claimed that the Deepinder Goyal-led platform had sacked over 300 workers for being late by an average of just 28 minutes over the last the months.
In the post on subreddit r/delhi, the user termed the layoffs as “cold termination”, stating that the employees abruptly dismissed for their ‘lateness’, “despite having excellent metrics, a great track record, and a strong presence on the floor.”
The former Zomato employee complained that the company did not give the workers any chance to improve their shortcomings, and showed no willingness to even listen to their side of things. “They didn’t care about the effort we put in, the results we delivered, or the dedication we showed. Just like that, they wiped out hundreds of jobs without a second thought,” the post read.
Further, the user accused Zomato of treating its employees as disposable, regardless of their contributions. “If you’re working at Zomato or thinking of joining, be warned: your hard work means nothing to them when they decide it’s time to cut numbers,” the user wrote.
The post noted that Zomato built its success on the backs of employees who put in real effort, but Goyal’s food delivery platform does not show loyalty to its workers in return.
Zomato Just Fired Me (and 300+ Others) Without Warning—Here’s the Ugly Truth

The Reddit post went viral on the platform and other social media sites with netizens sharing similar experiences with their corporate overlords.
One user, who claimed to be a former Zomato employee said he was also fired by the company for “a completely ridiculous reason”. “My login time was less, but apparently, that wasn’t good enough. What’s worse? I was never informed that this would count as non-compliance when I joined,” he commented.
The commenter noted while Zomato presents itself as a “fair” company, the fairness is lacking when it comes to sacking workers without warning or discussion. Akin to the original poster (OP), the user also accused Zomato of treating its employees as mere “numbers on a spreadsheet”, adding that hard work and dedication makes no difference when the company decides to cut costs.
Several users pointed out that the actual reason for the firings was downsizing, and attendance issues were merely a pretext. “”It’s not about being late by 28 minutes—that’s just an excuse. The real reason is downsizing. The company needed to cut costs, and some employees were caught in the crossfire,” a user commented.
Another Reddit user, who introduced himself as a lawyer based in Delhi, offered legal support to the aggrieved Zomato employees. “If you guys want to fight a legal battle against this. Feel free to reach out and I would strongly advise not to let this go like this. These companies think they can do anything and need to be taught a lesson. So let’s get on this and fight a battle against this and get you all the compensation you all deserve.”
Notably, Zomato has yet to issue an official response to the claims of mass layoffs and allegations made in the viral social media post.
