All India Bakchod is in trouble once again over Snapchat filters. The Indian stand-up comedy group now have a FIR for using the dog filter on Snapchat on PM Narendra Modi’s doppelganger. The picture collage of PM Modi’s doppelganger looking at his phone and seeing the dog filter viral and triggered all the trolls who bashed the group for their sense of humour. AIB and controversy have been going hand in hand for a long time. Whether it is the infamous roast or the Snapchat argument on using Snapchat filters to the the Sachin Tendulkar or Lata Mangeshkar voices, the comedy group has been handling all the issues like a pro. The latest addition to their issues came when a picture of a doppelganger of PM Modi became viral on social media.
The internet celebrities shared a joke on the picture by using the Snapchat dog filter on his face and faced a lot of backlash for this. The comic group deleted this controversial picture, however, instead of finally shutting down the trolls, this triggered liberals to target AIB and call them ‘coward’ and bash their acts. In addition to this, the Mumbai Police have now lodged a FIR against All India Bakchod for posting meme about Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter. This timely action by the Mumbai police has left people rather stunned and even as All India Bakchod face another case and some more nagging, the co-founder of the group, Tanmay Bhat has clearly spoken about his stand on the issue. The stand-up comedian tweeted a picture of an old tweet by PM Modi which reads, “we surely need more humour in public life.” this is not the first time the AIB has had to deal with some controversies and here is a recap of the top controversies of All India Bakchod.
1. The AIB Roast
The infamous All India Bakchod Roast tried to bring in the culture of making fun of people and roasting them for charity to India and failed terribly. While the jokes and the live show were extremely hilarious, Indians online could not bare the idea or the jokes that were made on the show, and AIB faced a lot of backlash for this project. From having to fight legal battles to actually going offline for some time, the All India Bakchod may have faced the worse in this phase of their lives and the Maharashtra government has decided to probe the matter and had several complaints against All India Bakchod for planning and executing the roast of Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, which was hosted by Karan Johar. The comedy group emerged stronger from this incident and still avoid talking about the roast!
2. The Sachin Tendulkar Lata Mangeshkar Spoof video
Tanmay Bhat is known for her hilarious Snapchat videos which range from just life updates to actual skits using various Snapchat filters. However, AIB’s Tanmay Bhat came under the radar for his spoof videos on Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar. Back in May 2016, the Mumbai police commissioner Datta Padsalgikar ordered a probe against Tanmay Bhat on this spoof video. Tanmay Bhat transposed his face with that of Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar and played a conversation between the two, which pissed many off and brought in more troubles for the group.
3. The sexual harassment controversy
When the sexual harassment accusations on TVF’s former CEO was exposed online, All India Bakchod was one of the first from the comedy fraternity to actually respond to the controversy and raised questions about the way things were handled. Soon after their opinions went online, the group were in for a shock as a Reddit use claimed that All India Bakchod member, Rohan Joshi had sexually abused her and the post went viral. This post brought in a lot of criticism towards AIB, who handled it like a pro and later the Reddit User revealed that she had lied about the whole issue!
4. Tanmay Bhat Mansplaining in Anupama Chopra’s interview
Anupama Chopra recently had a discussion with some of the famous internet based comedians and was discussing the issue of female comedians not getting as many gigs and shows as the male comedians. On this question, the group of India’s biggest comedians, which had just one female representative, Aditi Mittal, began to mansplain the issue and Tanmay Bhat was also seen butting in and answering the question instead of allowing Aditi, the only female comedian on the panel, to actually share her experienced. The male comedians, including Tanmay Bhat, received a lot of slack for this incident!
While All India Bakchod has always come out strong with their risky jokes and controversies, this incident once again makes people question the logic of social media. With hardly any laws to monitor the content online, comedians and local people have been coming under the radar for posting a ridiculous comments, pictures or videos. However, the best way to deal with this issue is what Tanmay Bhat said on the new controversy, “Will continue making jokes. And deleting if necessary. And making jokes again. And Apologising if necessary. Don’t care what you think.”
