Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is observed on April 14 every year to commemorate the memory of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar. He was a Dalit social reformer and father of the Indian Constitution. On his 128th birth anniversary, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee and Bollywood actor Sagarika Ghatge paid homage to him. Dr. Ambedkar was the architect of the Constitution of India and was India’s first Minister of Law and Justice. In the Constitution of India, Ambedkar guaranteed freedom to the citizens and introduced the abolition of untouchability and reservation for jobs for all reserved categories.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted in Hindi with a video, “संविधान निर्माता और सामाजिक न्याय के प्रणेता बाबासाहेब डॉ. भीमराव अम्बेडकर को उनकी जयंती पर सादर नमन। जय भीम!”.

President Kovind tweeted, “Homage to Dr B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. An icon of our nation, and Chief Architect of the Constitution, Dr Ambedkar waged a life-long struggle for a modern India free of caste and other prejudices, ensuring equal rights for women and weaker sections”.
