As if the censorship of films wasn’t enough, we have got classic Hindi songs being censored again on the internet. Credit it to the popular music sharing platform, Saavn, and its censorship dynamics, people are furious over not getting to listen to the popular Asha Bhosle’s number — Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar from Hindi film Hum Dono (1961) in its entirety.
Let’s face the reason now. Saavn seems to have mixed the word ‘Chhod‘ meaning leave with that of the Hindi word for ‘f**k’, and therefore, the word ‘chhod‘ in every Hindi song has been beeped by Saavn. We wonder if the lyricist back then gave this a thought! Check out how people figured it out and shared their dilemma on Twitter:
What is even more shocking is to realise that our dear Alexa is also behaving the same. A Twitter user revealed that even Alexa is playing the Hindi songs not without beeping the word ‘chhod‘. See this:
Now, what we are going to reveal next might make your jaw drop. Saavn actually took to Twitter to reply to a user stating, “Well this is… We’re certain this is correct on Saavn, and not exactly sure where the filtering is coming from. If there’s any way we can help, we’d love to! Do let us know the step-by-step navigation of how you’re playing the song and through which devices”.
Basically, they are like, ‘we don’t know how it’s happening. You can go figure it out yourself. And while you’re at it, tell the reason to us as well…’ Watch the song here; YouTube hasn’t done anything yet!
So, how’s the filtering actually happening then? Is Alexa deciding on behalf of her customers? As Saavn said, go figure out!
