Babita Kumari Phogat fans were in for a major disappointment when the ace wrestler lost out her opening match of the Pro Wrestling League 2017. The 2014 Commonwealth Games medalist whose life along with elder sister Geeta Phogat was portrayed on the silver screen, in Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal could not live up to the hyped expectations. Babita Phogat lost to former World and European champion Sofia Mattsson. The real Dangal girl was tamed by her opponent and pinned down in the matter of 46 seconds. PWL with tagline ‘Asli Dangal’ has Babita Phogat represent UP Dangal went down Haryana Hammers wrestler Mattsson 5-2. The video of her brutal defeat is nothing that you would expect from Phogat sisters after watching the Dangal film.

26-year-old Babita met Sofia Mattsson in her first encounter of Pro Wrestling League match at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Babita started off slowly, and the lack of aggression by Glasgow Games 2014 gold medalist worked in favour of Haryana Hammers wrestler. Mattson in a matter of few seconds raced up to 4-0 with Babita struggling to find any form against her dominant opponent in the 53-kg category. This was the second win for Haryana Hammers in the ongoing Pro Wrestling League edition.

There was a lot of hype before the start of this particular match featuring Babita. The primary reason was pretty clear with fans wanting to see the real wrestling champion, Babita after watching her character in the recently released sports biopic, Dangal. The movie starring superstar Aamir Khan is the story of Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir) and his dedication and struggle to make his daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat world wrestling champions.

Actress Sanya Malhotra played the role of Babita Kumar in the movie and received wide appreciation from all squares.  Unfortunately, the real life Dangal could not reprise the champion act in her match against Swedish wrestler. Nevertheless, we hope Babita picks up her form and wins next matches for her side. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on her elder sister and fellow UP Dangal teammate, Geeta Phogat when she takes on Sakshi Malik, the Rio Olympics 2016 bronze medalist representing Delhi Sultans later in the tournament. Geeta is India’s first female gold medalist in wrestling in Commonwealth Games 2010. Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh essayed the role of Geeta in Box Office blockbuster Dangal.
