Casey Affleck on Monday February 27, 2017 became the winner of Best Actor Award at the 89th Academy Awards. He won it for his movie Manchester by the Sea. Although he has been working since long but he achieved much critical acclaim and wide-spread recognition after his skillful performance in the above mentioned movie. He had been teetering on the precipice of movie stardom for quite some time. Although less famous than his older brother Ben Affleck, his acting chops surpasses the latter.
Casey Affleck plays a man whose life gets turned upside down after a tragic incident in Manchester by the Sea. After the death of his brother in the movie, he is named guardian for his nephew. His reluctant, restrained and dark performance earned him accolades, appreciation and many awards too. 1. Nominated for Best Supporting Actor Award in 2007

2. Gone Baby Gone
He starred in Ben Affleck’s directorial venture Gone Baby Gone as a conflicted private investigator and received much critical acclaim.
3. Directed a mockumentary I’m Still Here
Casey Affleck directed a mockumentary titled I’m Still Here featuring his brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix. It was meant as a joke and Joaquin Phoenix announced that he’d be quitting acting and moving into a career as a hip-hop artist. They orchestrated the whole thing and filmed their exploits as a rockumentary.
4. Spent a year in Mexico
Casey Affleck spent a year in Mexico with his older brother Ben Affleck and mother when he was ten. His mother separated from his father and moved to Mexico because Ben had landed a role got a part in a TV show called The Voyage of Mimi. 5. He had to be talked to join Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting was an exceptional film that got nominated for 9 Academy Awards including Best Original Screenplay for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and Best Supporting Actor for Robin Williams. He appears as a member of Matt Damon’s quartet of townie friends and really had to be convinced to take on the role. Matt Damon once told in an interview, ““We were just like, ‘Dude, we wrote this part for you, what is your problem?’ He’s like a little brother, and in that case he actually was Ben’s little brother.” Even though Casey Affleck was reluctant to take on the role, his performance was much appreciated.
6. Small roles in Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen
Casey Affleck played Virgil Malloy, a gifted mechanic who along with his brother helps to rob three Las Vegas casinos simultaneously. He reprised his role as one half of the duo in the sequels Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.

Casey Affleck off late has been embroiled into sexual harassment allegations. Amanda White who agreed to serve as producer on Casey Affleck’s mockumentary I’m Still Here and Magdalena Gorka, the film’s director of photography both alleged harassment against the now Oscar winner actor. Now that Casey Affleck has won an Oscar he will surely emerge from his older brother Ben Affleck’s shadow; however the bone of contention still remains about the allegations that have been levied against him.
