Coimbatore, August 8: In yet another tragic incident a 53-year-old man parasailing at an open ground fell to death from a height of around 60 metres (as high as six floor building). The entire incident that took place on Sunday afternoon, which was also caught on camera.
The video recorded by a spectator has went viral on social media and showed Malleshwar Rao, rising at the Coddissia grounds and in few seconds he fell to the ground with a thud. Initial reports suggest the safety harness through which the victim was tied had broken which led to the incident.
Eyewitnesses present at the spot said that Rao who was on vacation was precariously hanging with his safety belt unfastened to the paragliding gears. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by locals but was declared dead on arrival. Reports suggest that a parasailing festival was organised by the Coimbatore Medical College on Sunday and the contract of running the show was given to a private parasailing operator identified as Glider Babu. The cops are looking after Glider Babu as he went missing after the tragic incident.
An investigating officer probing the case said, “We are investigating the matter. It appears that the safety harness was either not latched to the glider or it was latched but snapped later”. The cops are also investigating the reason there were no rescue officials at the ground and why no ambulance were present at the venue.
One of the eyewitness reportedly said, “it took almost half an hour for locals to arrange a vehicle for the victim, only after which he was rushed to hospital”. Doctors at the city civic hospital suggested that the victim died due to severe head injuries and internal bleeding’s. Further probe is on.
