Children’s day, which is also widely known as ‘Bal Diwas’ is celebrated across India on 14 February every year to bolster the awareness of the fundamental rights of children. The day is celebrated to pay a tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru who was born on November 14, 1889, for he was very fond of kids and encouraged them. Prior to Nehru’s death, the country celebrated Children’s day on 20 November, which is a universal Children’s day by the United Nations.

Nehru, who was fondly called as Chacha Nehru, once said “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country”. Children’s day in India is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm everywhere. On this day, educational institutes organise fun and frolic activities for kids and distribute gifts and sweetmeats among children. Government offices also organise cultural programs and activities for kids.
