Singer Ed Sheeran is one of the most loved artists of recent times. Everyone right from common people to celebrities loves him. The 26-year-old Shape of You singer recently made an informal request to be a Kiwi national and got an equally cheeky reply from the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. In a video that has gone viral the New Zealand Prime Minister gave him a pop quiz or test which he must pass if he aims to become a Kiwi national. Ed Sheeran had expressed his desire to become a citizen of New Zealand in a video message shared by radio channel “ZM”. The video was to promote his upcoming concerts in the country scheduled for March and April next year.
Ed Sheeran said in the viral video, “Hey, New Zealand! I can’t wait to see you very soon. I’m not yet a citizen of New Zealand, but I’m working on it. Hook me up, prime minister, please.” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern wasted no time in responding to his plea and although she made no commitments she presented him with a quiz about some popular Kiwi terms. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern asks in the viral video, “Before we’re able to think about that a little bit more I’ve got some very important questions for you; the first, do you like pineapple lumps? Do you even know what they are?” Apparently, pineapple lumps are chocolate-covered pineapple confectionary which is hugely popular in the island country. She had another question ready for Ed Sheeran, she asked, “Two, are you willing to wear jandals in semi-inappropriate situations, and also, do you know what jandals are?” For the Indian audience, jandals are the kiwi term for flip-flops or thongs. It sure is heartwarming to see a Prime Minister take out time from her busy schedule to regale the common people even if it is by trolling an international artist. We wonder why Ed Sheeran did not express a desire to become an Indian subject when he was in the country for his concert. Was he afraid that he will have to apply for an Aadhaar card?
