The counting of votes for the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand has begun. Fate of a total of 821 candidates including 271 independent candidates will be today decided in Jammu and Kashmir after today’s counting. The five phase polling had ended on December 20with high voter turnout in the state. The Election Commission of India said that the overall voting in Jammu and Kashmir elections reached 65 per cent. On the other hand, the electorate of Jharkhand voted in impressive numbers as the turn out stood at staggering 66 per cent for this year’s state assembly elections.

Exit polls suggested that Mehbooba Mufti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge as the leading part with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following them. In Jharkhand, if the exit polls turns out to be right Amit Shah lead BJP will rule the state for the first time in 15 years.

While the vote counting is going on, final result will come out by evening declaring the party that will lead the government in the respective states. According to the early trends in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP is leading while PDP is yet to open its account. And in Jharkhand, BJP is leading while ruling Congress and JMM is trailing.
