Recently a video which was captured during an afternoon safari at Maharashtra’s Tadoba National park showcases a fierce battle between two predators- an adult tiger and a sloth bear. The video shows how the tiger chases away the bear but suddenly the bear charges on the tiger and soon the face-off ensues. The tiger tries to pin the bear down and the bear tries to escape from the tiger’s grip and ultimately tiger wins the battle. As per NDTV reports, the tiger is seven-year-old Matkasur and he has marked the water body called Jamun Bodu as his territory and the sloth bear who is female tried to enter his territory with her young cub in search of water and that’s when the tiger attacked the bear. In a bid to protect her cub, the bear charged at him as well.

“The tiger attacked the bear more than five minutes. It went after the sloth bear but she kept charging in order to protect her cub,” Akshay Kumar Chief naturalist at Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge told NDTV. “It went on for 15 minutes. The tiger was roaring. It was a severe fight.” Both animals sustained injuries during the scuffle and young cub ran away. Kumar shot the video while he was leading a safari with tourists and now the video is viral. Here is the video:

The national experiences high temperatures during the summer season and due to the scarcity of water animals assemble at common water body to drink.  An expert revealed that tiger faced issues to get a proper grip of the bear as they have a good amount of fur. “The only thing that saves the bear is the hair on the body because a tiger doesn’t get a grip,” Dr Andheria, President of Wildlife conservation Trust told NDTV.
