Good news for the Harry Potter fans, Jude Law is scheduled to play Albus Dumbledore in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Jude Law will play a ‘young’ Dumbledore opposite Johnny Depp’s Gellert Grindelwald. The second film in the Fantastic Beast series will show Dumbledore decades before he became the iconic Headmaster of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Pottermore, the digital publishing, e-commerce, entertainment and news company from J.K. Rowling announced that Jude law will play the beloved character and the legendary Headmaster of Harry Potter in the Fantastic Beasts film series. After playing a young Pope, Jude Law will be taking on this iconic role of a ‘young’ Albus Dumbledore.

Jude Law will play the Transfiguration teacher Albus Dumbledore at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the next movie in the Fantastic Beasts series. Albus Dumbledore was referred to in the first part when it was revealed that the movie’s hero Newt Scamander was expelled from the Wizarding School because of an accident with a magical creature and Dumbledore had argued against his expulsion. Albus Dumbledore has been shown as fond of Newt Scamander. Newt Scamander was played by Eddie Redmayne in the first part and will reprise his role in the second and subsequent movies as well. Unlike the Harry Potter books the plot of the Fantastic Beasts movie are not known and can only be speculated. Right now all that is clear is that three heavyweight actors will be seen in the next movie – Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald and Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore.
David Yates the director of the film series said, “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I’ve long admired and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.” The news of Jude Law’s casting made several ripples on social media and people were excited with the announcement as well as poked fun as Albus Dumbledore is gay and is attracted to Gellert Grindelwald.

People have been giving mixed reactions to Jude Law’s casting but he has got more or less favourable points but it seems the Harry Potter fandom has a major issue with Johnny Depp being cast as Grindelwald. People are still rooting for Colin Farrell’s return. Five films are planned in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, with David Yates returning as director. The sequel to Fantastic Beasts is slated for release on November 16, 2018 and starts filming this summer.
