The multi-talented Bollywood star Farhan Akhtar was born on January 9, 1974. He is the son of famous lyricist-scriptwriter Javed Akhtar and scriptwriter Honey Irani and the stepson of acclaimed actress Shabana Azmi. Birthday boy Farhan Akhtar is a great film director, producer, actor, playback singer, screenwriter as well as lyricist. In short, he is a package of everything good and has great talent. Farhan Akhtar is a gem from Bollywood. He has an established a production company Excel Entertainment with his friend Ritesh Sidhwani. Farhan made his Bollywood directorial debut in 2001 along with the cult film Dil Chahta Hai, starring Bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan as well as Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia. He also made his Hollywood debut as a lyricist for Gurinder Chadha’s Bride and Prejudice.
Slowly and steadily, Farhan has won hearts with his marvellous work and has been an inspiration for many. The actor married Adhuna Bhabani in 2000 and the couple was blessed with two daughters, Shakya and Akira. But Farhan and Adhuna officially announced their separation after 16 years of togetherness on January 21, 2016. Farhan’s career took a turn when he made his acting and singing debut with Rock On!! in 2008. He went on to act in Luck By Chance, Karthik Calling Karthik, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Wazir, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Dil Dhadakne Do, Rock on 2 and some more films. Farhan received a lot of acclaim for his film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag wherein he portrayed Olympian athlete Milkha Singh. Farhan Akhtar made his directorial debut in the film Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and, like we said, this was a turning point in his life, as he dealt with lots of ups and downs to get there. Farhan received credit for producing new wave Hindi cinema with Dil Chahta Hai, a film that went on to be a hit after a slow start. Farhan won many awards for his talent and his film was also screened at the International Film Festival of India. His next directorial was Lakshya (2004) and the theme was based on finding oneself. This Hrithik Roshan starrer failed at the box office but was critically acclaimed. Farhan showed once again that he is one the finest directors of B-town. Farhan went on to direct Don and Don 2 with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Both movies made money at the box office. His forthcoming productions include the Shah Rukh Khan-Mahira Khan film Raees – releasing on January 25 – and Don 3 which is being scripted.

Men Against Rape and Discrimination or MARD is a social campaign launched by Farhan Akhtar. The unusual idea occurred to this genius’ mind after one of his employees, lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha, was sexually assaulted and killed by her building watchman in sensational case.
Farhan launched his acting career in the film Rock On!! (2008), playing the role of Aditya, who is a lead singer of ‘Magik’ – a rock band. The film received an overwhelming responses from both critics and audiences. Farhan surprised his fans with a flawless debut performance as an actor and singer. Later, acted in his sister Zoya Akhtar’s movie Luck by Chance (2009) in the lead, where he again impressed with his acting. Then came Karthik Calling Karthik (2010) opposite Deepika Padukone, where he played the character of Karthik – an introvert guy who is schizophrenic.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) where Farhan played the role of a funny guy who is actually touchy about his estranged father. His performance was much appreciated. But Farhan nailed it with his performance of the role of Mikha Singh in the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013). He won several awards for it. In 2014, he was seen in Shaadi Ke Side Effects opposite Vidya Balan and in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015. In 2016, Farhan was seen in Wazir along with Amitabh Bachchan and Rock On 2.
Along with acting, Farhan also made his singing debut in Rock On!! and rendered five songs for the film, including Socha hai, Pichle saat dinon mein, Rock on, Tum ho toh and Sinbad the sailor. In 2011, he sang for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and gave fabulous soundtracks like Señorita, Toh zinda ho tum and Señorita (Remix). And in 2014, he sang for Shaadi Ke Side Effects movie and again for Rock On 2 in 2016. Farhan Akhtar regularly does live rock shows for his MARD initiative.
