Holi- the festival of colors and fanfare is upon us and people across the country will soon start the celebrations of Choti Holi or Holika Dahan. On this day which is a day before the main festival of Holi or Rang Panchami, people burn woods to ward off the evil and welcome goodness and happiness. But this year residents of Mumbai are celebrating Holika Dahan in a unique way. Yes, some Mumbaikars are planning to burn unique pyre to symbolize the win of good over the evil. The residents of BDD chawl in Worli this year will burn 58 feet high Nirav Modi effigy, symbolizing the evil Holika. The effigy was not created by any artist and the same was created by residents of the chawl.
Since past eight years, the residents of the chawl have been replicating social issues during Holi. In the effigy, Modi is seen sitting on a large diamond and the board below the seat says :PNB scam, diamond king. Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi of Gitanjali gems are being investigated after eleven thousand crore Punjab National Bank fraud came to light a few days back. As per reports, the duo has cheated the nationalized bank with the help of some bank employees.
Another society named Panchsheel in Grant Road will burn a replica of Hookah, in the backdrop of Kamala mills fire which claimed fourteen innocent lives. Sumit Pendharkar, the curator of the replica, told media: “In this year’s Holi, I want to convey a message that we should not consume hookah as it has caused the fire in Kamala Mills, which took several lives and it is too harmful for our health.”
For uninitiated, a major fire had broken out in famous Kamala Mills complex on December 29 last year and the same killed fourteen people and injured around twelve. As per reports, the usage of a coal in Hookah in Mojo’s Bistro was the probable cause of the fire which then spread to the adjacent rooftop pub 1 Above. What are your views on the same?
