New Delhi, Mar 18: On the occasion of Gudi Padwa, a string of Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh and Anupam Kher took to social media on Sunday to wish everyone a year full of love and happiness. Gudi Padwa marks the onset of Maharashtrian New Year. It is celebrated during the spring season and is also a harvest festival celebrated by people of Maharashtra.
The festival derives its name from a special Gudi flag, usually red or yellow in colour, which is made and is garlanded with flowers, mango and neem leaves. An inverted silver or copper vessel is placed over it which signifies victory and achievement. It is believed that Gudi would ward off evil and invite prosperity into the house.

Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh too wished everyone a new beginning on the occasion of Vasant Navratri, Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Navreh, Cheti Chand, Sajibu Nongmapanba.
Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Anupam Kher extended greetings on the occasion of Navratri and Gudi Padwa.
Chaitra Navratri, which commences today, is a celebration of Goddess Durga or Shakti and is commemorated with much fanfare throughout the northern region of the country. Meanwhile, people from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana celebrate Ugadi, which marks the New Year for the Hindus. In Maharashtra, people celebrate the day as Gudi Padwa. It is observed in the month of Chaitra, according to the lunisolar calendar, and is considered as a revered day that marks the New Year. It also celebrates the onset of spring and the reaping of Rabi crops.
