Let’s all agree in unison Half Girlfriend trailer starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor is probably the most disappointing work coming from director Mohit Suri. Obviously, it has Arijit Singh crooning, but for that, you’ll have the film’s song jukebox releasing in few days. Half Girlfriend film is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s ‘coming of age’ 2014 novel of the same name, and if you thought the book was bad, the movie promises to be worst! As soon as the trailer dropped in, Arjun-Shraddha starrer became the butt of jokes with Twitter buzzing giving their funniest and super genuine reaction to it. But our favourite one remains Half Girlfriend meeting Amrish Puri’s Aao Kabhi Haweli Pe meme. This along with other jokes is sure to give the movie’s protagonists sleepless nights. Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor’s Twitter bromance over Half Girlfriend is endearing!

When Chetan Bhagat released his book Half Girlfriend in 2014 with the teaser giving a glimpse about a Bihari boy named Madhav who could not speak ‘English’ and his true love Riya Somani, an English speaking modern girl from an affluent family. It broke the internet back then with Twitterati bashing up the stereotypical portrayal in the book. But hold on, three years later, the book has been transformed into a movie and all your worst fears about stereotyping, stalking, the value of consent in India, among many issues, will be right there on the silver screen, when the film releases on May 19, 2017.

Half Girlfriend is a story of Madhav Jha, a boy hailing from Bihar and wants to get into the prestigious Institute of St. Stephens in Delhi. But because the boy is incapable of speaking in English, he gets through the sports quota. Just like Rockstar, Tanu Weds Manu, Katti Batti where the guy, mostly ‘loser’ (geeks, naïve, simpleton) attracts the most beautiful girl, Arjun’s character Madhav befriends Shraddha Kapoor who plays the role of Riya Somani. Well, apparently she likes him but cannot commit and hence proposes to be his ‘half girlfriend’! Arjun, our Bihari boy questions her “Yeh half girlfriend hota kya hai?” (What is this Half Girlfriend?). The answer is explained by his friend played by Vikrant Massey, “dost se zyaada, girlfriend se bahut kum.” Sigh.

Arjun Kapoor is good in acting, but his over the top Bihari accent is annoying, to say the least. He sounds lethargic in dialogue delivery as there is no authenticity in his portrayal. As for Shraddha Kapoor, she is beautiful and stylish. Period. Take a look at some of the best reactions to Half Girlfriend trailer and decide for yourself.

The much hyped trailer of Half Girlfriend released and has already tanked. Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor should not be reading these reactions if they want to avoid haunting nightmares till the movie releases. The audiences are now banking on the talent of director Mohit Suri and his superb art of storytelling and the soulful tracks sung by Arijit Singh. Well, these two factors might be the saviour in the case of this half-brainer intense romantic drama film Half Girlfriend!
