This Friday, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari-directed Bareilly Ki Barfi released at the box office. The slice-of-life romantic comedy film starred Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao and had managed to impress both critics and fans alike. The film is set up in a small city of Uttar Pradesh with all its main characters gorgeously bringing out the real emotions and zests of big-hearted small townies. So what is with the small town people and whole ordeal of stereotyping them? Unlike metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi with its swanky lifestyles, small towns located in the heart of India has its own sweet pace and living styles. But on most occasions when persons from small town shift to bigger cities, they come across a string of annoying stereotypical things just like Kriti Sanon, and Ayushmann Khurrana is in this video made by a new-age content website and YouTube channel FilterCopy.

If you’re from a small town such as Darbhanga (Bihar), Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), Mawlynnong (Meghalaya), Idukki (Kerala), Khimsar (Rajasthan), Mussoorie (Uttarakhand) or any other beautiful place, chances are very high nobody would have heard of it! This lack of information is still fine till they brag to know about it by talking gibberish about its location (Looking absolutely geographically challenged).

One of the most common stereotypical questions that pop out of your city-dweller friends is ‘how well is your understanding of the English language’. While this is a problem for most of Indians when they step out of the home soil but for a small townie, this round of cliché begins at home. There are so many irritating assumptions and remarks that a person from a small town is tired of hearing – some of them listed below.

1. You Speak Very Good English For A Small Townie

2. You Must Know XYZ, Everyone knows everyone, Right?

3. Let me Take You on a Mall Tour. There Must be no Malls in Your City

4. How do you know such fancy words? Must have Googled them

5. Wow! You Said Meme, I thought You would Say May-May

6. You are using Tinder? Now You’ve Become a City Person

7. You Drink?!!!

Things People From Small Towns Are Tired Of Hearing Ft. Ayushmann Khurrana and Kriti Sanon

Bitti Mishra aka Kriti Sanon and Chirag Dubey aka Ayushmann Khurrana are the two small town persons who are heckled by their so-called suave city friends. From being commented about speaking well in English to ordering a cup of coffee with specific requirements to being on Tinder, these two meet with an uninvited barrage of surprised faces, jeers, mocking laughter and plain-rude taunts. But by the end of the video, Kriti and Ayushmann give their judgmental friends a piece of their mind on how being small townies does not make them inferior to anyone. It is nicely conceptualized video with the actors spreading a right message – a kind we need in the country.
