Charisma in its pure, unadulterated, original form. That is how things progress during the course of the Kabali teaser, which was released on the eve of May day. Superstar Rajinikanth’s looks are an important feature of every film he is a part of and here, director Ranjith has ensured that that Thalaiva’s large legion of fans have something to talk about for the next decade or so. From the looks of it, this is a throwback to some of the most dapper avatars that Rajini has been a part of, like Thillu Mullu, Annamalai, Baasha, Shivaji or Enthiran.

The Superstar plays a dreaded don Kabali. The scene starts with speculations on why and how he became what he is. All of his gimmicks are very much in place: The stoic yet playful laugh, hand gestures and of course, his inimitable dialogue delivery. Rajini’s fans are sure to gawk over this over the next few days.

The Salt and Pepper look is something that was popularised by Ajith Kumar, and there are other actors now who are following suit. There haven’t been too many films that had Rajini with white hair but this one is top notch. Complete with a suit, Rajini looks all class. Santhosh Narayanan scores the music for the film, his first in a Super Star film while Kalaipuli. S Dhanu is the producer. Radhika Apte makes her Tamil debut. The highlight of the teaser is surely  the final shot, which has Rajini strutting with purpose, sweeping his hair back. He has black hair there and it could be from the flackback portions of the film. As of now, “Kabali da!”
