Army Chief General Bikram Singh paid tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War in a ceremony ahead of the ‘ Kargil Vijay Diwas’ at the war memorial in Drass in Kargil today. The day Vijay Diwas marks 15 years after the Kargil conflict and the contribution of the armed forces. He also interacted with the families of the martyred soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh region on the occasion of the 15th Kargil Vijay Diwas.

On this occasion Bikram Singh said, “I want to assure you as chief of the army staff that the Indian Army is deployed at the border and has the capability to protect India’s sovereignty and integrity.”  He added the army is “fully geared to take on challenges and that the present government is committed towards ensuring that the needs and aspirations of the soldiers are met.”

Kargil Vijay Diwas is named after the success of ‘Operation Vijay’ and is celebrated on 26 July every year in the honour of the Kargil war’s heroes.
