One of the most awaited films from Kollywood, Kaththi releases this Diwali and after a lengthy delay, a trailer running for less than two minutes finally landed on YouTube , much to the anguish of actor Vijay‘s massive fan following across Tamil Nadu.
After the stupendous success of director A. R. Murugudoss and Vijay’s previous outing, Thuppakki, expectation levels have sky-rocketed ten-fold since the project was announced. Vijay plays two roles in the film; Kadiresan, who has shades of grey and Jeevanandham, who is your average Joe. Samantha looks stunning and the chemistry between the lead pair looked refreshing in the two teasers that preceded the trailer’s release.
Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh is also seen in an important role in the film and Ilayathalapathy is seen mouthing powerful dialogues. Looking at the trailer, one can easily say that the movie’s central theme will be around politics. Youth sensation Anirudh Ravichander’s music has already topped the charts since its release and the song teasers were well appreciated by audiences.
The trailer though, is a bit of a let-down and the timing of it; just days before the film’s release has left a bitter taste in the fans’ mouth. It’s not a shade on the jaw-dropping visuals that we witnessed in Shankar’s ‘Ai’ teaser. Thuppaki’s trailer was also written off before the movie’s release but it turned out to be the biggest blockbuster of 2012.
Kaththi might well follow suit but after indefinite delays due to protests and production delays by Lyca, one can’t help but feel a sense of vacuum in our hearts. With Happy New Year releasing on Diwali too, it will be interesting to see the Kollywood sensation Vijay taking on Shah Rukh Khan.
