The unprecedented floods in God’s own country – Kerala have created chaos, with over 2 lakh of the residents have been displaced and many have become homeless. The Indian Navy and the State government are relentlessly trying to restore life in the state by carrying out various measures to rebuild and rehabilitate the flood-affected victims.
Kerala’s Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac has said the state government is all set to start new lottery ‘Nava Kerala’ for mobilizing fund to rebuild the flood-ravaged state. The aim of this move is to mobilize fund and not to create lucky persons. The minister said, “There will be 90 first prizes of one lakh and 1 lakh prizes of Rs 5000. The government expects a net income of Rs 90 crore from the ticket”.
The minister added, “The money from the ticket will be utilized for the relief activities. NGOs, residents associations and political organisations can sell the ticket and temporary agencies will be given to all people free of cost for this purpose”.
While the money collected for the tickets will be utilised for the flood victims and relief operations, the commission from the tickets will be 25 per cent.
The date for launching the lottery is September 3 and concludes on October 3. The ticket price is Rs 250.
