On the occasion of Labour day, Alia Bhatt along with Aamir Khan visits Marathwada, a village in Maharashtra in offering shramdaan (also known as the contribution of labour) for Paani Foundation. She carries a shovel in her hands. Paani Foundation is a social initiative by Dangal actor Aamir Khan. In 2016, Aamir took up the issue of Maharashtra drought in his TV show, Satyamev Jayate. So he started a campaign with the show’s director Satyajit Bhatkal, aiming to help 90% of the drought-affected areas in the state.
Aamir started shramdaan on May 1, 2016, asking city dwellers and villagers to come to villages and help the rural population. Yesterday, Alia announced her involvement for the third edition of the event and tweeted, “Tomorrow that is the 1st of May.. I will be at a village in Marathwada, doing shramadaan with a shovel in my hands. What’s your plan? @paanifoundation @satyamevjayate @aamir_khan #PaaniFoundation.”
Today she was seen with Aamir Khan, Sai Tamhankar and several other Marathi actors for the shramdaan. Aamir had always looked out for a youth icon who could support the young generation to participate in promoting water conservation across the drought-ridden state.
Take a look the pictures from the event:
Earlier this year, Aamir Khan took Paani Foundation to Maharashtra’s different villages (Katgun and Zakhangaon). He had interacted with the inhabitants and children of the villages, where he discussed water conservation and management.
On a professional front, Aamir will be seen in Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Thugs of Hindustan. The film might release during Diwali 2018. Alia Bhatt will be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi. The film releases on May 11, 2018.
