If you do not believe in luck factor then you may start believing now after knowing that 31 Canadians became millionaires overnight by winning a historic lottery jackpot. All the 31 who work in the same refinery in Newfoundland purchased a group play ticket and they won the jackpot. The Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) will split USD 60 million dollar check into 31 equal parts so each person will get approximately USD 1.9 million. 5 workers announced their retirement as soon as they learned about the same but other 26 will work in the refinery. “I retired at 5:15 Saturday morning when [our shop steward] called me,” Eugene Lewis said in an ALC news release. He added: “It means a happy ending to my life, and then my kids will be looked after, and have a little few things that I could never afford to have.”
Sherry Moore Hickey, who is the only woman in the group was the one who purchased the tickets for all and when they won she was unable to convince them that it was real. “I had to call 29 people and be told silly things like, ‘Are you drinking?’ ‘Is there something wrong with you,’” Hickey told CTV news. “I told them all the same story, ‘We’re millionaires.’ I sent out a text: ‘This is not a joke. We are millionaires. Check the tickets.’”
ALC awards its winner in their office but the group was huge so they arranged a space which was large enough to accommodate around 350 people, including friends and relatives of the winners. “Sometimes we just do it at the office if it’s one or two people,” said ALC spokeswoman Molly Cormier. “But we had to look for a larger venue.” What are your views on the same?
