Remember Bobby Darling now called Pakhi Sharma finding her forever love in Bhopal-based Ramneek Sharma. Yes, the Indian actress after undergoing a sex-change operation married him in February 2016, but one year down the line the relationship has gone kaput. Bobby has accused her husband of domestic violence and forcing her into unnatural sex. Bobby well-known for her appearances in television and Bollywood, also revealed how her husband of few months usurped her hard-earned money. This is not the first time when the murky side of showbiz world has come to the fore. There is an extensive list of actresses, be it from TV or films, have suffered in an abusive relationship. From the recent case of Mandana Karimi to the earlier ones like Shweta Tiwari, Dimpy Ganguly, Rati Agnihotri, Yukta Mookhey., all have revealed horrific episodes of domestic violence.
1. Bobby Darling
From holding the Limca Book of Records (she did 18 roles as gay man till the age of 23) to become a household name with her participation in Bigg Boss, Bobby Darling has a fair amount of achievements against her name. The actress underwent a sex-change operation in 2016, and she thought her life was indeed complete after meeting Ramneek Sharma. She married him in February the same year and also changed her name to Pakhi. But her marriage has failed and in a big way. She claims to be the victim of domestic violence. Apart from regular beatings, forcing her into unnatural sex, Bobby Darling also accused her husband of using her money and buying property and car on his name. The always bubbly celeb is in tears, and all she wants is to get divorce and money for her estranged husband.
2. Mandana Karimi
Mandana Karimi took the nation by storm when she participated on the ninth season of celebrity reality show, Bigg Boss. She starred in few Bollywood movies like Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3, an adult comedy, Ranbir Kapoor- Jacqueline Fernandez starrer Roy and Randeep Hooda’s Main Aur Charles. The attractive model-actress surprised many with her decision to tie the knot earlier this year suddenly. She appeared to have found a perfect partner in handsome businessman, Gaurav. The couple married in a traditional Indian wedding after a court marriage, but six months down the line, the gorgeous actress revealed about the relationship going kaput. Mandana claims she was thrown out of her ‘matrimonial house’ seven weeks ago. She claimed her husband of six months and his family caused her trauma and destroyed her filmy career. After initial reports of the Iranian actress filing a case against Gaurav, Mandana withdrew it and reconciled with him and his family in order to ‘save her marriage’.
3. Shweta Tiwari
Shweta Tiwari is one celebrity that remains on top of our minds every time the topic of domestic violence in Indian showbiz is discussed. She shared a horrifying ordeal with ex-husband, Raja Chaudhary who was outright violent and abusive in nature. She accused him of beating her daily with their daughter, Palak constantly living in fear. The two separated after nine years and finally have moved on in their lives. Shweta remarried in 2013 with telly star, Abhinav Kohli and has a son named Reyansh with him.
4. Rati Agnihotri
Being in an abusive relationship for 30 long years is a task and Bollywood actress, Rati Agnihotri was the victim of it. But she finally found the courage to end the relationship with her husband, architect Anil Virwani. She recounted the days of the horror of being beaten up by her ex-husband at the time of her divorce in 2015. The chilling statement by Rati about being a domestic violence victim, “I thought to myself that I am a 54-year-old woman and I will progressively grow older and weaker and then one day I will die, beaten to death.” Thankfully, she is living a blissful life with her model-actor son, Tanuj away from the beastly claws of physical assault.
5. Daljeet Kaur Bhanot
The tale of television actress, Daljeet Kaur and her ex-husband Shaleen Bhanot dominated the headlines after she narrated her battle with domestic violence. The telly couple who married in 2009 separated after seven years in 2015 following a series of accusations from Daljeet against her ex-partner and his family. She accused Shaleen of strangling her amongst the many lows her five-year of an abusive marriage. Daljeet now is a proud single mother of her four-year-old son.
6. Yukta Mookhey
Miss World 1999 and actress, Yukta Mookhey was married to Prince Tuli, a New York-based businessman and financial consultant till she separated from him in 2014. The reason for divorce was once again the barbaric physical assault and domestic violence. The former beauty queen filed a FIR against Prince Tuli under Section 498A (cruelty and harassment) and Section 377 (unnatural sex or rape) of Indian Penal Code in 2013 and got divorced next year.
7. Dimpy Ganguli
Dimpy Ganguli might be lucky to find true love the second time, but her first marriage was nothing but a stuff of nightmares. The Kolkata model’s marriage with Rahul Mahajan during a reality show in 2010 caught the attention countrywide. But slowly she faced the harsh reality of living in an abusive relationship where her husband kicked and punched her. Dimpy separated from Rahul after confronted with a threat to her life and got divorced in 2015. She remarried to her best friend, Rohit Roy, a Dubai-based businessman the same year and the couple are proud parents to a baby girl named Reanna.
8. Zeenat Aman
One of the most sought after actresses and original sexy siren, Zeenat Aman boasted of a massive fan following but remained unfortunate in facing domestic violence in both her marriages. He first husband was actor-producer Sanjay Khan with the couple drifting away in just one year (1978-1979), thanks to his abusive behaviour. Her second husband was Mazhar Khan with which was severely disrupted with him physically and emotionally abusing the actress. Despite the nasty behaviour, Zeenat stayed by his side till he passed away from cancer. At present, Zeenat Aman lives with her two sons – Azaan and Zahaan.
9. Rucha Gujarati
Television actress Rucha Gujarati who shot to fame with Ekta Kapoor’s popular daily soap, Kkusum in 2003 is also amongst the actresses who found love the second time after battling domestic violence the first time. In 2010, Rucha married Mumbai-based businessman Mitul Sanghavi but separated three years later citing mental and physical abuse as the grave reasons. The 31-year-old actress tied the knot again in 2016 with a businessman named Vishal.
The aforementioned names are neither the first nor the last ones to face domestic violence, which remains an unaddressed issue in our society. These are strong ladies who came out fighting hard against their abusive partners and emerged stronger. There have been many celebs who may not have been married but faced physical assaults with the biggest names cropping as Bollywood A-listers such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Preity Zinta facing assault in their relationships in the past. It is a serious matter which needs to be highlighted and addressed.
