However, it is not the official trailer and we assume it to be a leaked video from the film. The video enlightens you about the shocking reality of Varanasi. Set in the post-independence period the film talks about the corruption going on in the city, which is refereed as the spiritual capital of the country. It reveals how foreign nationals are exploited under the name of spiritual value here. The video has a lot of cuss words, which gives us an impression that the filmmakers will have a tough time getting certification from the censor board. Besides, the subject of the film can lead to lot of controversies post its release.
Mohalla Assi is loosely based on popular Hindi novel titled Kashi Ka Assi, written by Dr. Kashinath Singh. The novel talks about commercialisation of a pilgrimage city and fake gurus who try to lure foreign tourists. The movie is based on a popular Mohalla (locality) near Assi Ghat, based on the banks of Ganges Rive. The movie also stars Ravi Kishen and Saurabh Shukla in supporting roles. The filming of this project began in 2012, but was delayed due to non-payment of dues to the director. Mohalla Assi is scheduled to hit the big screens by October 2015.
