Bollywood has been synonymous with rains and rain sequences. A rain song in any mainstream Hindi film reveals an array of emotions. It could reveal intense love and passion between the actors, playfulness and some mischief, stage a sequence where the heroine is trying to seduce the hero, or love and longing where the leads are desperate for one another or a beautiful dance sequence. Rain songs are a delight and we list our 12 all-time favorite ‘Rain Special Songs’ you must tune into this monsoon.
1. Pyaar Hua Ikrar Hua
This song is the first which pops into our minds when we hear the word ‘Rain-Love’song. It is an iconic song and features an iconic screen pair in the form of ‘The Showman’, Raj Kapoor and the resplendent Nargis Fakhri from Shree 420. 2. Kaate Nahin Kat Te
This legendary song featuring the evergreen Sridevi and Anil Kapoor takes sensuousness to an all new level. This lovely track from their film ‘Mr India’ shows Sridevi in a blue sari seducing and professing her love to an ‘invisible’ Anil Kapoor. The song was shot in shed with hay and some lovely music to dance to.
3. Tum Hi Ho
Arjit Singh’s soulful voice, heavy downpour and Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor kissing in the rain using a jacket to cover their heads. There couldn’t be a more defining moment in hindi film romance in recent times than the one in Aashiqui 2. The melodious music, the sequence and the actors everything contributed to the magic.
4. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
This is not exactly a song but an instrumental version of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s title track. This track is special as it features our favorites Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol serenading to the tunes of this heartbreakingly beautiful tune. 5. Tip Tip Barsa Paani
This sexy track from Akshay Kumar-Raveena Tandon starrer Mohra also makes a cut to our ‘Rain Song Special’ list. Raveena Tandon is a transparent ochre-yellow saree is seducing Akshay Kumar, in a white sheer shirt. The track is seductive yet beautiful.
6. Koi Ladki Hai
SRK is officially our poster boy for love stories and add a rain sequence to that and voila! Koi Ladki Hai, a popular track from Yash Chopra’s Dil Toh Pagal Hai features our favourite SRK and dhak dhak girl Madhuri Dixit. They dance not only with each other but also a group of street children. The track is playful, fun and a treat to the eyes.
7. Sawan Barse
This beauty of a track tugs at your heart strings each time you hear it. From the Akshaye Khanna-Sonali Bendre film Dahek metaphorises rains with longing and waiting for your beloved. Laced with some excellent lyrics and tunes, it is a must have on your playlist!
8. Taal Se Taal Mila
We cannot take our eyes off each time the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai dances and we certainly cannot take our ears off this lovely musical track. The song from Subhash Ghai’s film Taal. The film has Aishwarya Rai in beautiful white attire dancing away in some excellent choreography to ‘Taal se Taal mila’. The first showers flushing away all the pain and sorrows, this is a beautiful song.
9. Bhaage Re Mann
Kareena Kapoor plays a happy go lucky prostitute in the film Chameli. The song picturised on her features on our list not only because of its charming music but also because it is so empowering to see Kareena in her colorful clothes dance away to glory. A must hear. 10. Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si
Kishore kumar and Madhubala, do we need another reason to not like this song. From the film Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, this song has Madhubala waiting while Kishore kumar fixes her car and sings the song to woo her. We like.
11. Boondon Ke Moti
Never has a rain song looked this fresh and relevant as it does in Wake Up Sid. The song features Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma and them realizing their love for each other in the film. It has some super singing by Tochi Raina and tugs at your heart strings. Must listen to.
12. Barso Re
Another Aishwarya Rai track, this one from the film Guru. Here Aishwarya is dancing in the company of rivers, mountains and raining skies in intricate Ghagra cholis. The song sung by our favorite Shreya Ghoshal. The foot tapping nature of this song makes it to our ‘Rain Song special’ list.
