Rising Pune Supergiant began their VIVO IPL 10 campaign under their new captain Steven Smith. The young Australian cricketer who replaced Mahendra Singh Dhoni was happy to start the 10th edition of Indian Premier League with a motivating 7-wicket win over Mumbai Indians at the MCA Stadium in Pune. But RPS owners frenzy celebration did not go down well with the Dhoni fans who are still irked over the IPL team’s decision to replace tournament’s most successful captain. Harsh Goenka, the chairman of RPG Enterprises and brother of RPS owner Sanjiv Goenka went all out to post a controversial tweet post his franchise’s first win VIVO IPL 2017 season. He posted about Steven Smith overshadowing MS Dhoni, and all hells broke loose on the micro-blogging platform! MS Dhoni burns Kevin Pietersen with savage reply to the English cricketer’s ‘I am a better golfer than him’ comment!

Rising Pune Supergiant Harsh Goenka took to Twitter and posted: “#RPSvMI Smith proves who’s the king of the jungle. Overshadows Dhoni totally. Captains innings. Great move to appoint him as captain,” (Obviously, this tweet no longer exists and been deleted). Steven Smith who is one of the top batsmen in the world and Australian Cricket Team played like a champion by smashing 84 not out off 54 balls guiding Pune to last-over win against Mumbai. But Harsh Goenka’s immature tweet of praising Steve Smith by belittling Dhoni’s efforts on the side was simply uncalled for. Dhoni fans rightly used the same platform to teach Mr Goenka a lesson for a lifetime but trolling the businessman left, right and centre.

Dhoni who is one of the most respected cricketers enjoys a wide fan following in India and across the cricket playing nations. The 35-year-old has proved himself to be a team man first on every occasion he took to the field for his side. Seeing a tweet from the Rising Pune Supergiant management, Dhoni is a part of is foolish beyond words, echoes the sentiments of Dhoni fans on Twitter.

Harsh Goenka tried to mellow down the heated stand and correct his folly by tweeting in favour of Dhoni in his replies to angry (justified) cricket buffs. He wrote, “You are right. Dhoni is a great batsman. But today was Smiths day.” Another one of his damage control tweets read: “I agree with you, Dhoni is a star. Has led India to glory. And the whole nation including me consider him my hero.” Unfortunately, this did not have many results on King Dhoni fans who were in no mood to be pacified. Poor Mr Goenka’s most recent tweet read: “Clear conscience is the best pillow for a sound sleep.” Hope that has helped you, sir!

Reality Check for RPS Owner

During the post-match conference, Rising Pune Supergiant cricketer Ajinkya Rahane clarified who’s the ‘boss’ of the side. Speaking to the media, the Indian batting mainstay said, “Though Steve Smith has led the Australian side very well, for me, MS Dhoni is still the best leader. This was the first game as leader for Smith, but he was learning from Dhoni as well.” He further added, “Smith was seen taking more tips from him. Dhoni was seen giving tips and inputs to Smith in the middle.”

The Indian Vice-Captain poured out his thoughts in a simple statement on who is the best in business – Smith or Dhoni. He said, “It is very difficult as I have just played one game under Smith. I have played a lot more under Mahi bhai’s captaincy and we all know he is a world-class leader. I think people should not compare Smith and Dhoni’s captaincy. He (Dhoni) is still a world-class player.” We hope silly comparisons are kept miles away about MSD!
