Locals in the town of Kitwe, Zambia was in for horror stricken when they spotted what looked like a massive human-shaped figure in the clouds above a shopping centre. The apparition resembled a Dementor from the Harry potter movies, and was seen flying over the Mukuba Mall in Kitwe. The image had a large head and torso like the Dementors from the J.K.Rowling’s Harry Potter universe. It had long tail-shaped feet. Eye witnesses claimed that the apparition was over 100 metres (330 feet) long. The locals flew in terror after sighting the apparition while some began worshipping the figure mistaking it for a manifestation of God. The others ran in horror thinking it is an incarnation of the devil itself. The figure remained visible in the sky for half an hour before it dissolved into nothingness. As per the reports by The Daily Mail, an eyewitness said, “We were shocked to see images that looked like a human in the clouds for close to 30 minutes. Some started worshiping but others ran away. It was so strange.”
J.K. Rowling created the dementors in her hugely popular Harry potter series, one of the foulest creatures that inhabit the wizarding world. Dementors are modeled on depression and the only cure for overcoming its effects is eating chocolate. In the Harry Potter universe dementors can be repelled by thinking of happy thoughts and a spell – Expecto Patronum that conjures a silvery patronus which fights against the dementors. A patronus is a silvery vapor which takes the form of an animal and protects the witch or the wizard and is specific to every witch or wizard. We are not sure how the apparition in Zambia did come to be formed but speculation is rife that it might have been a cloud formation due to different substances.
