Indian TV Shows have their share of weird shows that range from humans turning into flies to seek revenge to a human following in love with a bear, but the creepiest of them has to be the new TV serial, Pehredar Piya Ki. The new soap that will air on Sony TV revolves around the child marriage between a 10-year-old boy and an 18-year-old and captures everything that is wrong with the Indian TV shows. In a time where Bollywood movies are facing the wrath of censorship the content on Indian television seems to be the least of anybody’s issues. The trailer video of Pehredar Piya Ki was released recently and is completely cringe worthy and will make you skin scrawl. Jab Harry Met Sejal Censor Board Issue: Pahlaj Nihalani claims CBFC will clear movie with word intercourse if there are 1 lakh votes!

The Indian soap opera tells the tale of an 18-year-old woman who acts as the bodyguard and safe keeper of a 10-year-old boy who is apparently her husband and the show stars Tejaswi Prakash, Afaan Khan and Suyyash Rai in lead roles. The trailer video of Pehredar Piya Ki shows the actress playing an 18-year-old Indian princess, Diya who is also the safe keeper of her ‘piya’ (lover) Prince Ratan Singh who is 10-years-old. The video ends with the boy filling sacred vermillion on the princess’ forehead, which shows that they are actually married.

The TV show is being promoted as a “royal love story”, and the promo shows the princess playing the knight who will protect her husband (who is a 10-year-old kid). The trailer comes with a disclaimer that says that “This show doesn’t endorse child marriage in any way whatsoever” and goes on to show the (royal romantic love) story of an 18-year-old woman and her 10-year-old husband (MISSING: the logic of the showmakers). The trailers of Pehredar Piya Ki show have a special Karwachauth promo that has the 10-year-old kid breaking the fast of the much older woman, and the latest trailer shows him filling sindoor on her forehead.

Pehredar Piya Ki will begin on July 17 at 8.30 pm and is being called a different love story. The idea that a story on child marriage that is showing the love story between a little boy and an older woman is aired hassle free on the Indian television speaks mountains about the amount of thought that goes into the government authorities who allow TV shows. In a time where Bollywood movies are facing the wrath for trying to use words like intercourse in a movie like Jab Harry Met Sejal, Indian Television shows continue to come up with bizarre and senseless shows that are promoting child marriage as a “royal love story” and getting away with it!
