Raj Kapoor, a prominent figure of the Kapoor family will be remembered for his contribution towards the Hindi cinema. Known as the “greatest showman of Hindi cinema” he was also a musician, director and editor. Known for his stellar performances in films like Mera Naam Joker, Shree 420, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Awara among many others, Raj continues to inspire every age group. He was born on December 14, 1924. The actor left a mark on Hindi cinema and will be known for the characters he played on-screen. His work is not known only in India, but also is well-known across the world. Raj Kapoor was born in a Pathan-Hindu family in Peshawar to Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni Devi Kapoor. He debuted as a child artiste in Inquilab at the age of 11 years. Ten years later he played a lead with Neel Kamal opposite Madhubala. He is known for his movies including Shree 420, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Bobby and Mera Naam Joker. Raj began his career as clap boy assisting Kidar Sharma. For his contribution to Indian cinema, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1971. He was also awarded the Indian cinema’s highest award, Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1987 by the Government of India.
