Twitter has done it again without waiting to realize the gravity of the situation, it has gone ahead and blocked Rose McGowan’s Twitter account. Her Twitter account was blocked overnight after she spent a considerable amount of days exposing the sexual abuse of women in the entertainment industry and Hollywood. She has called Oscar-winning actor Ben Affleck “fuck off” called Harvey Weinstein a “POS”. She also called for the dissolution of the board of the Weinstein Company. Rose McGowan’s Twitter account was restored in the early hours of today morning. Rose McGowan’s ban was not made clear by Twitter at the 12-hour ban lasted around 5-6 hours. Rose McGowan took to Instagram to say, “TWITTER HAS SUSPENDED ME. THERE ARE POWERFUL FORCES AT WORK. BE MY VOICE.”

Twitter of late has come under severe flak for not being more transparent about its rules and regulations. Hate speech and venom is spouted daily on the micro-blogging site by neo-nazis and common people but their account is not suspended. Rose McGowan’s Twitter account became a symbolic reference of the power the influential people wielded in the media. Rose McGowan was calling out producer Harvey Weinstein who is under fire for harassing, sexually exploiting and raping women over several decades. Her fight with Ben Affleck over the issue also raises questions as his account was not suspended but hers was.
