Cricket is a religion and cricketers are no less than gods in India. Yes, we are a proud cricket-crazed nation. But recent happening with Indian cricketer RP Singh losing his cool with a fan and humiliating him on purpose is a shameful act. The viral footage video on the social video captured bowler Rudra Pratap Singh throwing a fan’s phone on the boundary line when asked for a selfie. This shocking act by RP Singh took place during Gujarat vs. Mumbai, Ranji Trophy final at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. While Parthiv Patel led Gujarat side scripted history by beating 41-time champions Mumbai by five wickets, one cannot justify the obnoxious act by the 31-year-old cricketer.

On January 14, Gujarat beat formidable Mumbai side in the Ranji Trophy final. Parthiv Patel side managed to do the impossible after all Mumbai are considered the strong team with their 41 record championship wins. But one incident which put a blot on their emphatic win was unexpected arrogance shown by Gujarat team member, RP Singh. The medium-paced bowler is caught insulting a fan on camera. The footage video uploaded on YouTube has gone viral since then.

RP Singh is seen moving towards excited fans near the boundary line. Just like regular thing during a cricket match, the fans eagerly were shouting for his autograph and selfies. An agitated RP paced towards them and took one fan’s phone who had also requested for a selfie. Much to the shock of spectators, RP Singh tossed the phone on the ground and walked away casually. Really, hurting to see this Indian player bring shame to the Gentlemen’s Game.

RP Singh who has represented India at the highest level needs to learn humility from the all-time greats from Indian cricketing history. Former cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, or present day greats Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Koli, Yuvraj Singh, learn from them a thing or two about respecting a fan’s love towards them. Apart from being charismatic and phenomenal players, their golden trait of humility and down to earth made them biggest ambassadors of the game. RP Singh needs to learn a thing or two from controlling his arrogance and being more down to earth.
