In a shocking incident, a Tamil Nadu-cadre IPS officer was caught cheating at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in Chennai. He aspired to become a civil servant but was caught using unfair means in the exam. Safeer Karim, an assistant superintendent of police in Nanguneri, Tirunelveli was caught on Monday when he was found using unfair means to pass the UPSC (Main) examination. Probably taking a cue from the movie Munna Bhai MBBS, Safeer Karim was caught with a cellphone, a Bluetooth-enabled miniature camera in a shirt button and wireless earpieces with which he was connecting with his wife Joicy Joy who was reportedly helping him with the answers from Hyderabad. As reported by Times of India, Safeer Karim who was on probation has been arrested by the authorities and being questioned.
Safeer Karim would be booked under IPC Section 420 as reported by India Today. Safeer Karim comes from Aluva in Kerala and had secured a rank of 112 in his second attempt at the UPSC exams in 2015. He is an owner of an IAS coaching academy named La Excellence IAS. The coaching institute has branches in Hyderabad, Bhopal, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram. According to reports published in the Hindu, his wife Joicy Joy was also a visiting faculty at the institute and he used to send pictures of the question paper through Whatsapp to his wife who would tell him the answers. Another teacher from the institute has also been detained who is suspected of providing him with the answers.
