The 74th Golden Globe Awards were held on January 8, 2017, and renowned Hollywood actress Meryl Streep was honoured with the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. The progressive actress, who is known for making her opinions heard, spoke against US President-elect Donald Trump’s 2015 controversy, where he reportedly bullied a disabled New York Times reporter and made jokes on him. This Golden Globe award acceptance speech gained a lot of respect from the film industry in Hollywood and also reached the Indian stars, who were all praise for the strong-headed actress. ALSO READ: Priyanka Chopra is floored with Meryl Streep’s Golden Globe Awards 2017 speech; calls herself a fan girl.

Earlier, Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio had spoken about another social issue, global warming, in his awards acceptance speech at the Oscar Awards 2016. These instances reminded us of the various awards acceptance speeches that we have heard in Bollywood, which were monotonous and boring! It made us wish that actors and actresses in our industry should also speak about social issues while accepting prestigious awards. Here is a list of seven B’town actors, like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone and more, and the subject we feel they should take the floor on!

Shah Rukh Khan on Insomnia

Shah Rukh Khan has been the king of Bollywood for a very long time. He has reigned award ceremonies with his mere presence, winning trophies and entertaining us on stage. The acclaimed actor though has always given the old school ‘thank you’ speech while accepting his awards. However, we really wish the actor spoke about his troubles with insomnia on stage and spread awareness about its treatment and how sleeping pills can be good if used moderately!

Salman Khan on Anger Management

The Sultan of Bollywood, Salman Khan, is rumoured to have dealt with various anger issues. The actor has been the recipient of various awards in recent times with his reign of hit films and that seems to have cooled him down. We have seen a small part of his anger on the Colors reality TV show that he hosts, Bigg Boss, and heard numerous stories about his rage in the past (including the time when his then girlfriend Aishwarya Rai accused him of physical abuse). It would be heartening to hear the actor include his battle into his acceptance speech.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Body Positivity

Green-eyed beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has received appreciation across borders and has made her presence felt, being a former Miss World and a Bollywood actress. However, the actress was body shamed by various media channels post her pregnancy, when she had put on tremendously. Aishwarya became a subject of trolls time and again but shone out of those situations. However, not much has been spoken by her on body positivity and we think she should – her popularity will make sure her voice is heard!

Kareena Kapoor Khan on Cyber Bullying

Kareena Kapoor Khan has been open about her pregnancy as well as her weight gain in the process. The actress has been socially active and working through her pregnancy and plans to continue being a boss on film sets. However, Kareena has been the subject of online trolls for naming her baby boy, Taimur Ali Khan. While the actress and hubby, Saif Ali Khan did not react to the trolls, it would be immensely helpful for millions who are trolled, if she spoke up about the topic of cyber bullying and spread some positivity.

Deepika Padukone on Depression

Padmavati actress Deepika Padukone has been seen talking about her battle with depression at various events and interviews. The actress has also begun her own NGO, Live Love Laugh, which aims at spreading awareness on mental illness. However, award shows are watched by a wide variety of people, who don’t necessarily read the interviews. The actress can reach a much larger audience by addressing the issue while accepting an award.

Ranbir Kapoor on battling Alcoholism

Yes! Ranbir Kapoor recently confessed to have been an alcoholic after his break-up with Katrina Kaif. The actor confessed in an interview to Vogue India that he has a drinking problem when he is not working. Alcoholism is a major issue that many people have suffered from, and if Ranbir speaks up about this problem on stage while accepting a best actor award, it may encourage many who are battling similar problems to seek help!
