Even as we are enjoying watching Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Salman Khan’s show Bigg Boss 10 this weekend, the Raees actor is all set to catch a train to Delhi! His publicist informs us that post Bigg Boss 10, Shah Rukh Khan and Team Raees will hop on to a train to Delhi and we have all the deets! SRK will catch the Delhi-bound train from Mumbai Central at 5 pm IST on Monday, January 23! He will reach Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi at 10.55 am on January 24, just a day before his film’s release! So, be there to see your favourite star either in Mumbai or Delhi. SRK will be part of an entourage and Raees director Rahul Dholakia will also be there, of course, along with producer Ritesh Sidhwani.
Wouldn’t it be great to see Raees aka Shah Rukh Khan on a train? The last we remember him on a train was in his much emulated iconic train sequence from his cult romantic film with Kajol, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). That scene is etched so strongly in our minds, we almost wish Raees has a similar scene with SRK snatching away his girl Mahira Khan! But we correct ourselves – Raees is a different film altogether and we shall see what it is about when it releases ahead of Republic Day 2017 on January 25. But this is not the first time that celebrities in India have used the Indian Railways to promote their film or their cause! Here is a look at some such celebs.
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone (Mumbai to Delhi for Tamasha)
Before Shah Rukh Khan’s film promotions team thought of this brilliant idea, Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone had already taken a train ride to Delhi. Yes, from Mumbai Central itself! Ranbir and Deepika travelled to Delhi in an overnight journey on November 22, 2015, to be there for the promotions of the film Tamasha, directed by Imtiaz Ali. Incidentally, Ranbir Kapoor had shot at Mumbai Central station for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, his earlier film with Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Rahul Gandhi (Mumbai for Congress)
The Congress Vice-President may be known or rather be infamous as the ‘Pappu’ or dumbass of Indian politics now, but just a few years ago in 2010, people had very positive expectations from him. He had cashed in on his charisma then and travelled in a Mumbai local train to send out a strong message to rival political party Shiv Sena. Rahul Gandhi was at Vile Parle in Mumbai, when he withdrew cash from an ATM, after which he travelled from Andheri to Dadar by the Western railway local train and then from Dadar to Ghatkopar by the Central railway. It was reported by DNA that he had taken a Kalyan fast train from Dadar, which was diverted to Ghatkopar due security issues. Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray called Rahul Gandhi’s impromptu ride and security hassle as ‘Mussolini Raj’, but the public loved Rahul. Take a look!
Anil Kapoor (Mumbai for 24)
Anil Kapoor hopped on to a local train in Mumbai to promote the second season of 24 – his hit television show that is a remake of the original American 24. But it seems apna jhakaas Chembur boy was trying to relive his childhood days when he ended up doing some stunts on the local train from Churchgate. Anil Kapoor landed in trouble because of that!
Rahul Bose (after 2007 Mumbai blasts)
Actor-activist Rahul Bose travelled on the Mumbai local train after the 2007 train blasts in the city. A day after the bomb blasts on multiple local trains in Mumbai, people were back on the Mumbai local to travel to work. So, was this the spirit of Mumbai or was it their majboori? Rahul Bose interviewed commuters and the truth was out – they had to put their fear of death aside and travel by the local train because, they had no choice! Rahul Bose received his second CNN-IBN Citizen Journalist Award for this initiative.
