89th Academy Awards commenced on February 26 and one of the movies which kept the Indian fans glued back home was – Dev Patel starrer Lion. Lion is an adaptation of Indian-born Australian businessman Saroo Brierley’s book A Long Way Home which earned British actor Dev Patel, Oscars 2017 nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category. The 26-year-old Indian-born star lost to Mahershala Ali who won for Moonlight. But there’s more excitement for Lion fans in India, and it has Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan related to it. Yes, Shah Rukh Khan could play the role of Dev Patel’s role in Lion if it gets remade in Bollywood. This wish comes from the real-life Saroo Brierley who wants to see King Khan play him on the silver screen.
Saroo Brierley, on whose life Oscar-nominated movie Lion is made, says superstar Shah Rukh Khan would be the apt choice if ever a Bollywood film is made on him. Speaking to PTI, he said, “I am OK for a Bollywood film to be made (on my life). It can be made into a sensational Bollywood masala film. If ever a Hindi film is made, Shah Rukh Khan can do it (my part). Among the actress (to play my love interest) Deepika Padukone or Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Preity Zinta would be apt.” He has a collection of 300 Hindi films, and his favourite is Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s rom-com Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Saroo clarified that there had been no offers from B-Town to make a film yet.
“Lion” is based on the true story of a young Indian boy who gets separated from his brother and mother when he ends up 1,000 miles away from his home, lost at a train station in Kolkata. He survives many challenges before being adopted by an Australian family, and he eventually tracks down his lost family in India via Google maps years later.
Dev Patel essayed the role of adult Saroo Brierley while the role of young Saroo was played by 8-year-old Sunny Pawar of India. Sunny Pawar at the Oscar Awards 2017: Top 5 things to know about the Indian dapper dude from Lion!
The child actor floored the celebrities and audiences watching him live with his adorableness.
