Hitting the screens today after much anticipation, Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar‘s dacoit drama, Sonchiriya, is being well received by audiences country-wise if Twitter is to be believed. Pouring out their reaction on the micro-blogging site, Twitterati are urging fans to make the Abhishek Chaubey directorial, a must watch this week.
Set in the 1970s, the movie tells the story of dacoits in Chambal and stars Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles, apart from Sushant and Bhumi. While one fan tweeted, “#Sonchiriya does not hesitate from telling some harsh truths and is powered by some stellar performances @itsSSR and @bhumipednekar are fabulous @BajpayeeManoj awesome…#Abhishek Chaubey’s film makes social commentary and how” (sic), another lauded actor Ranvir Shorey for his stellar performance and wrote, “I think the world needs to give @RanvirShorey his real due as an actor. How he shines in #Sonchiriya . I cannot get over his performance. It is so fine, so dynamic, so nuanced, so fun. Congratulations! You are BRILLIANT” (sic).
Earlier, preparing hard for the forthcoming flick, Bhumi had revealed, “The physicality of my character concerned Chaubey the most! He really went to the details of it and he literally told me that the women of Chambal are carb eating women. They are muscular but they are lean and they are fit because the amount of work they do through the day – they walk kilometers, go get water, they have to pick up 8-10 litres of water on their head with a child in their arm and walk back. Every time they want to go to the bathroom they have to walk. Through the day they are working at home or at the fields. They don’t really have any rest and I planned my workout around what he told me.”
This is for the first time Sushant would be seen essaying the role of a dacoit and with Sonchiriya, Chaubey will be returning as a director on-screen after two years. His last directorial remains Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh starrer Udta Punjab, which hit the screens in 2016 after a lot of difficulties. Sonchiriya has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala while its story is written jointly by Chaubey himself and Sudip Sharma. Filmmaker and music composer, Vishal Bharadwaj has given music to the film.
